To make a negative sentence in English we generally use "do not (don't)" or "does not (doesn't)", except for some verbs line To Be and Modal verbs.
Look at the following examples.
Positive | : | We like ice cream. |
Negative
|
:
|
We don't like ice cream.
|
Positive | : | She likes ice cream. |
Negative | : | She doesn't like ice cream. |
So, we can see from the examples that we use "do not" if the subjects are plural pronouns or nouns (We, They, People, etc.) and we use "does not" if the subjects are third person singular pronouns or singular nouns (He, She, Tony, a boy, etc.). We can also see that in negative sentences we do not use -s or -es with the verbs.
Study the pattern below.

He | |||||
It | does | not | |||
Maria | |||||
My father | |||||
They | swim everyday. | ||||
We | |||||
I | |||||
You | do | not | |||
My brother and I | |||||

If we use "to be" as the verb of the sentence, we use neither "do not" nor "does not".
Instead, we only need to add "not" after the verb. Study the pattern below.

It | is | ||||
Maria | |||||
My father | |||||
I | am | not | sad. | ||
